New Books Are In The Works!
Chocolate City Way Up South In Appalachia is an examination of Black Appalachian experiences at the intersection of race and place in Knoxville, Tennessee, authored by myself and edited by Abby Freeland at University Press of Kentucky for publication in spring 2024.
A New History Of Appalachia uncovers the many places and spaces in Appalachia that are entirely or predominately Black, building a new narrative that rethinks the history of the region from the experiences of those most marginalized while underscoring how their erasure reveals systems of power in the modern United States. This book is written with Stuart & Joyce Robbins Associate Professor of History at WVU Jessica Wilkerson and edited by Abby Freeland at University Press of Kentucky for publication in spring 2029.
